About
boxfish labs
We are rethinking privacy in the digital world through creativity, design practices and Futures exploration.
Boxfish Labs is an emerging privacy design studio focused on shaping more ethical and transparent digital futures.

Founded in 2024 by interaction designer Viktoria Biki, the initiative grew out of a design research project exploring the right to be forgotten and the personalization–privacy paradox. What began as a speculative design diploma project has since evolved into a growing platform for creative exploration, education, and collaboration around data privacy.

Our goal is to make privacy simple, actionable, and part of everyday decision-making for families, teams, and organizations.
Why Boxfish?
If we keep approaching privacy the same way, we’ll keep getting the same flawed results.

Today’s digital world is proof: data protection feels broken, trust is fading, and users are left without real control over their information.

That’s why we started looking for new ways to think about privacy, solid, sustainable strategies that go beyond technical fixes and legal fine print. What if, we asked, we took inspiration from nature?

Like the tropical boxfish (Ostracion Cubicus), which evolved a strong shell and adaptive defense mechanisms against ocean predators to survive in a complex environment, we believe users and organizations need resilient tools to protect their data. By translating these natural strategies into interactive formats, we help people and businesses adapt, better understand privacy risks, and how to respond to all these challenges.
We use interdisciplinary design methods such as art therapy, biomimicry, speculative design, future casting, and participatory design to unpack complex digital systems and make privacy issues tangible and relatable. Our work spans workshops, installations, tools, and consulting for businesses, institutions, and public audiences.

Despite technological solutions and legal guardrails, the weakest link in privacy is still human behavior.

We’ve been socially engineered: nudged, tricked, and conditioned by deceptive design patterns that exploit our instincts and habits. At Boxfish Labs, we believe it’s time to regain control.
Through creative tools and interactive experiences, we encourage self-awareness, reflection, and critical thinking helping people uncover their own inner defense mechanisms and motivations. Only by understanding ourselves can we begin to navigate the digital world with clarity, confidence, and agency.
